An open group of men

We're a group of men who meet every fortnight in Brunswick Heads. Any man can come along.

We sit in a circle and agree on a few ground rules about safety, respect and confidentiality. Then each man shares whatever is on his mind while the others listen in silence.

That's it. One facilitator, a group of men who have something to get off their chest, and nothing else to sign up to.

How a night runs

  1. We sit in a circle

Chairs in a circle, and the men who turned up. Any man is welcome.

  2. We agree on a few ground rules

A few basic rules around safety, respect and confidentiality. The circle is run by one of the men, who is an experienced facilitator. Everything shared stays in the group.

  3. Each man gets his time

When he's ready, each man talks about whatever is going on in his life. Nobody interrupts. He gets an agreed amount of time, about seven minutes.

  4. Questions, if he wants them

If he wants, the group can ask him questions. Only to help him think it through, never to judge.

Nobody has to carry it on his own.

Questions men ask

Do I need to be at rock bottom?
No. Most men wait until they're close to it. You don't have to.
Sharing in front of a group sounds intimidating.
It can feel that way from the outside. Once they're in the circle, a lot of men find relief in seeing that the others have tough times too.
What will the other men think?
Nobody is there to judge. Each man shares when he's ready, and the others listen. That's the whole deal.
Does what I say get back to anyone?
No. Everything shared stays in the group. It's the first thing we agree to every night.

Any man over 18

Most of us are between 30 and 60. Some men are going through a tough time. Others want real connection with other men that doesn't mean going to the pub.

It costs a $10 donation on the night.

Come along

Over ten years of Tuesdays

Complete Men was started on the Gold Coast more than ten years ago by Tim Fisk, and this group grew out of it. Tim has since retired. The Byron shire group has kept going the whole time, run by men who volunteer because they've felt the benefit first hand.

For some men it's the first time in their lives they've said how they feel, or what they're struggling with, somewhere safe. For many, it's the only place they feel heard.

It's a respectful place to get things off your chest, and to back other men doing the same.
